In 1818, Louis Charles Pillivuyt (pronounced 'pilly-veet") set about to create the finest quality porcelain using his own individual combination of raw materials. Since 1853 pillivuyt has been operating out of the Pillivuyt homestead near the town of Mehun-su-Yevre. The factory is employee-owned and today employs 300 of the local population.
